Kinja'd!!!

This week's installation of MR-Tuesday will be a little bit short. I have been under the weather since Wednesday and have not had a chance to do any work to the MR2. BUT I did get to drive her a few times this week and I still get the same excited, visceral feeling I felt the first time.

This did arrive in the mail from Neil Jones from the UK:

Kinja'd!!!

I highly recommend sourcing used parts from him, he has quite a few AW11's that are being parted out due to various ailments. His price was reasonable, shipping was really fast, and communication was extremely well. I can't wait to install it and hear the true sound of the 4AGE. Mine has a leak at the exhaust manifold flange so it has been a bit beater sounding. Picked up the seals for it last night.

The car also passed NYS safety inspection Friday so it's 100% legal until the end of April of next year!

I should be getting valve cover gaskets tonight so I can try the cylinder head bolt torque checks and see if that seals up the vacuum leak between the cylinder head and block. If not I'm doing a full head-gasket and probably going with ARP head studs while I'm in there.

My fellow Jalop co-worker and I were cruising around Sunday and found a nice cul-de-sac in a pretty bare parking lot and did some maneuvers. The car definitely under steered a bit. I'm thinking that adding the OEM rear sway bar from a MK1A would help out a bit.

Since I don't have a whole lot of work to post pictures about, MR2 Memes. Because MR-Tuesday!

When you do your valve cover gaskets make sure you also replace the 8 little washers under the nuts that hold the valve covers on. Also make sure you dab the corners with RTV like it says in the manual otherwise it WILL leak.

Also when you do your head gasket, have your head resurfaced at a machine shop and ONLY use an OEM Toyota gasket. They are just plain better. Also also, in order to get to the head bolts you have to remove the cams so you may as well do a timing belt job as well.

Good tips, I made sure i ordered the gasket set that included new washers. That's why I had to wait an extra day. I will look into a timing belt and check the maintenance records from the previous owner to see if it's been changed recently. They are pretty impeccable records.

I've been called McFly a couple times and asked where I got the back to the future car before. It makes you wonder how people can be so un-observant.

I've had a surprising number of people think that mine's a Ferrari. Could be because it's red and always has the top off. I'll take that over the people who think it's a Fiero.

It will, but the ST one is better, about the same price and adjustable. The AW11 is super sensitive to toe settings though, and the factory has alot of toe in at the back to try to prevent snap. I'd zero the front and rear toe as a default setting and adjust to taste.
